I think the athletic or ESPN did a Good Washington Football Team Est 2020 Shirt on a guy who has like 15 of the most common names discussed already trademarked by generating bullshit merch to meet the minimum requirement to trademark then just donate/destroys the merch once the trademark is secured. This was a real story, too. A guy registered DallasCowboys.com or whatever after it expired. Obviously he didn’t get rich off of it because it’s basically illegal to domain squat. Only one way to beat the trolls. Go by Washington Generals. The trolls can’t register that!

The reason these guys are getting away with it now is that there never was a Washington Red Wolves or Sentinels or whatever before. It’s not just picking a name. So many things go into creating a brand and launching it. They’d be silly to rush something out in a month if they want it to stick for decades.
